Windows Defender will only work on *known threats, this person appears to be writing their own code so unless it is almost identical to something else that is known it won't help.

Funny story. I wrote a nasty piece of software in High School purely because the idea came to me. What it does is manipulates a core function of Windows to damage the hard drive partition beyond repair. I was showing another kid in my programming class on his dad's laptop and the bell rings. I told him not to touch it so I could properly remove it during class the next day. His dad clicked on it :emoji_confused:. They lost everything on the computer and their antivirus didn't do anything.

In retrospect I'm kinda glad that nasty piece of software isn't floating around out there.

In my opinion you didn't go far enough. It is possible to physically damage a harddrive through software making the data impossible to recover.

Perhaps you couldn't recover it but I'm doubtful that you truly prevented against the modern data recovery tools.

Possibly but due to how this part of Windows functions I'm fairly sure it wouldn't be possible. That said, this was 15 years ago so.....

It likely would have been recoverable on Linux. Perhaps annoying but unless you did a 7 pass erase I'm doubtful that the information was 100% lost.

Nah you're good. Just an injection attempt and it doesn't work with MTS.

    (disregard @Kadauchi )
